I’d like to share with you what I think is my favorite passage of Scripture. It’s hard to really pick one, I confess, but if I had a gun to my head, this is the one I’d choose.
Romans 4:18-21
“In hope he believed against hope, that he should become the father of many nations, as he had been told, “So shall your offspring be”. He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was as good as dead (since he was about a hundred years old), or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah’s womb. No distrust made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what he promised.”
Most of us are waiting for something. Most of the things we wait for are of our own makings and for our own desires. Some wait to win the big one, others for the big love, yet some wait for their names in bright lights.
Once in a while, God gives each of us a promise. He puts in our heart a desire, and grants a word of His promise that will bring glory and fame to his name. Once in a while, we wait for God things.
Yet even when we wait for God things, we face obstacles. The light won’t change quick enough, the guy ahead of us is a poor driver, we run low on gas. And the seed of doubt grows slowly, until we find ourselves hopeless, depressed, cynical, and disappointed.
Growing in faith gives glory to God. Waiting in faith for God to come through elevates God. Abraham waited. He simply waited. His waiting didn’t worry. His waiting didn’t weaken. His waiting didn’t wobble.
No tapping the foot, no looking at the watch, no huffing and puffin, no whining to the neighbors.
He simply worshiped while waiting giving glory to God as he grew in faith.
Are you fully convinced of God?
