Justice

Here’s what I read this morning.

Psalms 99:4

“The king in his might loves justice. You have established equity; you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.”

The king in his might loves justice.

God loves justice.

God is just.

Did you get that? God, who reigns over all, who sees all, who knows all, loves justice. He knows who is right and who is wrong. He gets who deserves punishment and who should be freed. He doesn’t need DNA tests or lawyers, or arguments, or convincing.

He loves justice.

I like that. I find myself often fighting for what is right. The baby who needs defense from an angry father. The girl whose uncle shouldn’t have touched. The people who deserve health care but can’t pay for it. The wife who works hard but doesn’t get her husband’s praise. The employee whose boss just keeps pushing him.

I like justice. Many of my arguments with people stem from the fact that I hate it when people are short changed. And I’m not even paid to defend the weak. I just have an intrinsic desire to help them.

But I regularly find myself disappointed. The wrong person is sued. The wrong person wins. The wrong person gets the bigger piece of the pie.

It’s easy to get disillusioned with life if you keep your eyes on a horizontal plain. It’s easy to get cynical and jaded.

But look up for a second and your perspective will change like mine did this morning. The king – our King – loves justice. He’s not blind to what’s happening. He hasn’t forgotten you. He sees how you’re wronged.

And He will execute justice. At the right time, and in the right way.

The king in his might loves justice.

I love that king.
