I got lost on my way home from brunch today. I knew where I was coming from and where I was headed, but I somehow managed to take the wrong exit. It’s not something I do a lot, but what’s worse is that in that particular instant, there was no easy next exit to take and get back on the right road.
I ended up driving all the way to the airport before I was able to find my way back home.
Needless to say I was annoyed and delayed. I hate knowing that I could have gotten to the same end result faster. I thought of all the things I would have done had I not gotten off the right path.
The good news is that I ended up at the correct destination despite my mistake.
Hey, have you gotten off the wrong exit in your walk with Christ? You came to the cross, started a relationship with the Lord, and clearly saw where you were headed. Heaven was on your mind, and the future was bright. But somewhere along the way, you got off the right road. Maybe it was sin that gets you down. Maybe it was a relationship you shouldn’t have gotten involved in, or maybe it was just some stupid highway stop that distracted you.
Regardless, before you knew it, your destination became a hazy location in your rearview mirror.
Want some good news? The moment you notice that you’re on the wrong path, you have a choice. You can keep on going and never make it home. Or you can find the nearest exit, make 180 degree turn and get back on the right path.
And you will make it home.
The Christian word for this turn around is called repentance.
Do you need to repent today? Don’t wait a minute longer, just tell God you got off the wrong exit and ask him to help you get back on the right track.
God in his grace uses even the detours in your life for your benefit. Stop sulking in regret over wasted time. You will make it home.
Get on the right road today!
