Friends

The plan was to help my friend pack her home. The time span to do it two hours.

It sounded like a ridiculous venture. I mean, how much packing can you do in two hours? A lot if you live in a cubicle. But we’re talking a full scale husband and son home with multiple years of accumulated marriage stuff.

I was skeptical to say the least. My friend’s pitch was interesting. She said two hours is nothing. But you multiply that by 6 people, and that gives you a solid 12 hours worth of work.

Ha. Try that next time you want to move. It was enough to convince me and our entire monday night bible study group to get in the truck and car pool the 45 minutes to her home.

The truck was part of the plan as well. My friend assured us that at the end of the packing venture we’d get to do a little shopping as well. That’s quite a deal if you ask me.

We arrived at the scheduled time. My friend is no dummy.  She had written out job descriptions and goals for the evening. She strategically began by feeding us. We almost felt guilty for eating before working, but it also helped us feel like we owed her something now!

Then we got to work.

I am not joking when I tell you that we packed just about the entire house in less than 2 hours. I wouldn’t believe it if I wasn’t there. It was unbelievable. And we had fun doing it.

To top it off, I walked out with another leaf blower (my favorite yard tool if you’ve read my previous blogs….no one can have enough leaf blowers), and a hedger, and a trimmer, and a beautiful yard bench.

Unbelievable. It was the best 2 hours I’ve spent in a long long time. Not to mention seeing the joy my friend felt as we helped ease her burden.

Life is better in community. Jesus meant for us to live in community. Read the first couple chapters of the book of Acts in the Bible if you don’t believe me.

Stop trying to do it alone.

it’s too hard.
