5 Warning Signs God Gives

There’s nothing worse than seeing your friend walking towards a ditch and not saying anything to stop him.

It seems heartless. It seems ridiculous.

We like to think of God as steadfastly patient. Always loving. Ever faithful. Never angry.

He is all that and more. Yet one of the most loving things God does for us is to provide us with some basic warning signs in a life filled with landmines.

I’d like to give you 5 Warning Signs God gives us as we consider our life in the light of His word.

1. If you don’t repent. In Proverbs 28:13 it says “Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy”. God doesn’t expect us to be perfect, but He does want us to repent – regularly. A lifestyle of repentance involves having a regular change of mind and heart about sin leading to a change in actions. Is there anything in your life that needs to be repented of? God takes this matter seriously.

2. If you don’t forgive. In Matthew 18 Jesus shares an amazing story of a man who did not forgive and ended up losing his life and freedom for it. Jesus ends the parable by saying “so also my heavenly father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart”. Not serious enough for you? Check Matthew 6:15. Jesus says “but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” Consider yourself warned.

3. If you don’t love. I John 4:20 says it this way: “If anyone says ‘I love God’ and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.” As you’re headed to church today, think about the people around you. Do you love them? How can they tell?

4. If you don’t believe. When I think about the people of Israel in the Old Testament, they never seemed to get it right. We can make lists of their inadequacies, but God only holds one thing against them. In Hebrews 3:19 God says “so we see that they were unable to enter (God’s rest) because of unbelief”. Wow.  Think your lack of faith is no big deal? Think again!

5. If you don’t obey. The 5th warning sign from God’s word is in I John 2:3 where it says “and by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments.” If you’re not obeying God, you gotta wonder if you know Him. You can change that right now. Get to know him for the first time, or simply start  obeying – right here, right now.

God won’t let you walk into a landmine. He loves you too much.

So do I. I’m praying that as you read my posts daily, you would sense His presence near you and His love around you.

You are loved.

God is always there. We need to consciously be aware of His presence. This is the motive for not sinning or of being aware of sin when we do. The constant and conscious presence of God is our motivator to holy living. God puts stops and obstacles in the way to remind us. The ones you gave are good if we are aware of shariat ing on in our life. I Kings 11:39 gives us a clue. good thinking.
