My dad took his car to the dealership a few days ago to get the air condition fixed.
Several hundred dollars later, he picked it up and to his dismay found out that the problem was not fixed. As is usually the case, he had to convince the guy at the dealer that the air conditioner was still broken. Nonetheless, he managed to leave the car again for the second time to be fixed.
There was more anticipation and frustration the second time around, and of course multiple people at the dealership were called to address the problem. Needless to say, my dad wanted an answer back within a reasonable amount of time.
So he gave several means for the dealer to contact him.
He gave his email address.
He gave the home phone number.
He gave the cell phone number.
And he waited. And waited. And waited.
Then he started complaining that no one was calling him back.
Until my mom noticed the blinking light on the home phone machine indicating a message was left. My father has no clue how to check phone messages. So she checked it. It was the dealership.
Then she opened the email account and checked the inboxes. It’s the email account that my dad has never once used and couldn’t open if his life depended on it. There was a message for my dad from dealership.
And, yes, you guess it, there was even a message on the cell phone that my dad never carries.
You see, it doesn’t matter how many places you leave to be contacted. If you don’t know how to access those means, or if you just ignore them, you will never ever hear back from the person trying to reach you.
I find this picture hilarious. I imagine my dad pacing the house in frustration, growing in anger and murmuring under his breath that no one pays attention to his needs, that everyone ignores him. I see him seething over the money spent to fix a problem that was never correctly fixed, wondering why no one cares to let him know why.
While all along 3 messages await him in places he has no idea how to access.
Are you living your life frustrated with God, mumbling about the sort of dealings he has had with you, angry because you feel ignored by him? Are you waiting for a message to show up somewhere, somehow, sometime?
Maybe it’s time to figure out how to access the places God leaves messages.
Like HIs word. You may need someone to help you understand it at first. And that’s Ok. But sooner or later, you’ve got to figure out how to open up that book and listen for the answers.
God is speaking. He does it through his word. There is no problem he cannot fix. There is no person too unimportant for Him to care for and speak to. There is no circumstance He isn’t aware of.
It’s not enough to know that he speaks through his word.
You’ve actually got to figure out how to open it and listen to the message!
