Letting Go

The teachings of Jesus Christ challenge me to the core.

They also scare me to the core.

His is a road that is not for the faint in heart. It is a road that calls for sacrifice. It is a road that calls for a free falling kind of trust in an unseen God who promises to catch you the minute you make that leap of faith. It is sometimes a road of division.

But above all, it is a road that calls for everything.

That sounds good on paper, but it freaks me out in real life.

The widow in Luke 21 got it.

She gave everything. She didn’t have much to begin with. But she gave it all.

No one watching was impressed. Her share was laughable compared to what others were giving.

But she gave everything.

In other words, she had nothing left to live on.

She didn’t leave a secret stash for a rainy day, or in case God didn’t come through.

She didn’t bargain with Jesus, or double check that He saw her great sacrifice.

She didn’t even introduce herself to him.

But quietly, and humbly, and painfully, and trustingly, she put in all she had to live on.

And Jesus knew. He saw her sacrifice.

He knew that she knew that He is.

How much have you given to Jesus Christ?

Or better yet, how much have you kept for yourself?

Scary, for sure.

Inexplicable, you bet.

But the only way to set you free.

Isn’t it time to let go?
