I was sitting in church recently, when I looked up at the big screen in front of me and was very impressed. I leaned over to my sister and asked: “did they just get high def screens?”.
No, they had not. I had just gotten new vision. I had picked up my new contacts a couple of days before and was seeing everything in amazing clarity and detail.
Now I know I recently blogged about my new contacts and the importance of vision, but I realized I never talked about How to get new vision. So I’ve been thinking about that question for a while, and have come up with a few points that may help if you’re feeling like you need vision in your life and are not sure how to get it.
1. Recognize that the old vision is broken.
I did not realize I needed new contacts until I lost the old one. Not that the old ones were any good. I had noticed them deteriorating over the course of months, but did nothing about it. It was when I hit the crisis of actually losing the contact that I actually starting looking for new vision. Losing that contact turned out the be the best thing in my life!
Are you in a place of crisis in your life? Don’t look at the problem as an inconvenience. Realize that God may be using this very crisis to show you that you need new vision in your life. That is a good place to be.
2. Go to the expert.
Get professional help. I don’t mean get a shrink. But I do mean go to the best source for help. In the case of your life,
Go to God.
I needed an ophthalmologist for my contacts, but you need God of this universe for perspective on your life.
And I mean, do it right away. I found the number for my eye doctor within minutes of losing my vision. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same of my pace in getting help from God, but it’s never too late to do it now. Get on your knees, and ask him to fix your vision.
And by the way, the Bible says that “in the multitude of counselors there is wisdom”. It’s ok to seek out a couple of respected older godly folks for their two cents worth, but that should NOT substitute going to the top!
3. Wait for it.
After I saw the eye doctor, he had to order new contacts for me. It took a couple of weeks to get them. I thought I was going to die in that period of waiting. I could hardly see. My glasses, though kind of cool, drove me nuts in the heat. But I had no choice but to wait. It’s the same for your life vision. God doesn’t do McVision. His is a process of waiting.
In Habakkuk 2:3 the Bible says: “If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.” If you’ve lost your vision and are looking for a fresh one, wait for God to deliver it. Don’t rush. Don’t settle for a substitute man made vision. Don’t skip the vision entirely. Just stay at it and wait. It will surely come. Never was a day so joyful as the day I drove to the eye doctor’s to pick up my beautiful high def contacts!
4. Pay for it.
My new contacts were not cheap.
Fresh vision will cost you.
Luke 14:28 says “For which of you desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?”.
You’ve heard it before. No pain, no gain. Nothing worthwhile is cheap. But it’s the only way to live.
Do you need fresh vision for you life?
Go to God. He’s waiting.
Life is so much better in HD!
