Do you want to be a dead Christian or a growing one?
Wait. Don’t answer that. I already know what you’re gonna say.
Of course you want to grow! Every Christian wants to grow and be a fruit bearing healthy green tree for Christ. The question is: how do you do it?
Let me share with you 7 Signs of a Growing Christian:
1. Vertical. It all starts with Jesus and it all ends with Jesus. It’s all about Jesus. Listen, you cannot be effective horizontally if you aren’t focused vertically. How is your focus today?
2. Biblical. Every mature Christian you will ever look up to will tell you that a steady intake of the Word of God is the difference. Do you struggle in making right decisions? Do you wonder why you’re going through what you’re going through? Read the Bible and find your answers. God is speaking through His Word. Are you listening?
3. Prayerful. God has given us prayer as a means to speak to Him. Pray in the morning. Pray at night. Pray when you’re happy. Pray if you’re sad. Pray when things are smooth. Pray in the rough waters. Pray out loud. Pray in whispers. But whatever you do, pray. And by the way, did you know that prayer is the secret to abiding?
4. Purposeful. If I were to describe the ministry of Jesus Christ, I’d have to use the word Intentional. He came to earth for one reason only. He came to die. Everything He did was towards that goal. In the same way, a growing Christian lives on purpose. Want to know what your purpose is? Try this: your purpose in life is to glorify God in everything you do and make His name known. How is that going for you?
5. Powerful. I don’t mean incredible hulk power. I mean real power. God’s power in you. He gives the strength to do above and beyond what we ask or think. That means He gives power over sin. He gives power over temptation. He gives power over weakness. Living with Power. Wait…that sounds familiar!
6. Hopeful. Hey, Christian, are you discouraged? Do you feel forsaken? Has fear engulfed you? Take out those shears and clip that dead branch off. Jesus Christ has risen from the dead. He’s the reason for our hope. Hope sees light in the darkness. Hope sees an end to the trial. Hope sees salvation for the lost. Hope sees love in the face of hatred. Hope is the risen Christ.
7. Forgiven. Lastly, a growing Christian is forgiven. No, not perfect. Simply forgiven. I look back on my life and all the wrong choices I’ve made. I think about what I could have become without the saving knowledge of Jesus. I’m alive because I am forgiven. I’m approachable because I am forgiven. I am full because I am forgiven.
So….what’s keeping you from growing?
