Walking by Faith

How can you tell that you’re walking by faith?

After all, the entire Christian walk is based entirely on this faith principle. Hebrews 11:6 says that it is impossible to please God without faith, and that he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him.

Pretty important, don’t you think?

So I’m asking you again, how can you tell that you are walking by faith, and not by sight?  What are the signs of a faith walk?

Some have explained faith this way: “God said it, I believe it, that settles it”.

Others have said it this way: “Faith is believing the word of God and acting on it, no matter how I feel because God promises a good result”.

That’s great, but how can you tell that you are in fact living by faith?

Here’s what I think based on the word of God.

1. Faith means Action.

Read Hebrews 11. It is the great faith chapter in the BIble. Look at each example given. In each circumstance, the sign of faith is action. You believe, you obey. You believe, you do. You believe, you act.  Moses did. Abraham did.

Ask yourself: “Is my faith impacting my actions today?”. If you can’t answer that, your faith may not be real.

2. Faith means Rest.

Isaiah 26:3 says “you keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you”.

If your spirit is churning and working and plotting and planning, you are not living by faith.

Faith lets go of trying to fix things, and rests in the knowledge of God in control.

Faith is the absence of fear. It is the presence of peace. It is rest.

You may be rightfully wondering: How can action and rest co-exist?

It’s like this. I can plant my flowers and I can water them, but I cannot make them grow. On the other hand, if I don’t water them they won’t grow. Faith is a little like that. I do my part – obey what I know. But God has to do the rest. And He gives me rest in it!

If I keep touching the flowers, or unpotting them and repotting them, or pacing around them until they grow…welll, you get the picture. Mine is to do my part, then rest while God does His part.

Are you doing your part today?

Are you resting in God today?

Live by faith. It’s the only way.
