Summertime

It’s Summertime!

The sun is finally shining

The raindrops gone are drying

and though it feels belated

my heart is still elated

It’s Summertime!

it started with great hopes and thrills

I planted all my daffodils

and waited for the trees to fill

while winter blues forgotten dim

It’s Summertime!

the birds their eggs have hatched

the squirrels’ nests are made

the ants their hills have raised

no longer dreams delayed

It’s Summertime!

my friends are on the way

the children hard at play

the sound of joyous days

ring loudly through the haze

It’s Summertime!

I’ll lift my voice and praise

the one whose son has raised

and conquered death and paid

for all my sin and shame
