All in the Sound of a Voice

The lady at the Starbucks drive through recognizes my voice, and there is nothing in the world that could make me happier.

I know that because ever since I found out about the green coffee plugs, I have been asking for them in an effort to avoid spilling.

Here’s how it usually rolls: I ask for my venti black coffee then pull up to the window to pay. When they hand me the coffee, I usually notice that they haven’t given me a plug, so I kindly ask for one.

I do that day after day after day.

I don’t mind asking for the plug, and they don’t mind giving it when asked. They pretty much always have them, and I pretty much always want them. I have even gotten in the habit of collecting them in a drawer in my car for that rare occasion where they may be out of them. It happened to me once in the last year and it ruined my day.

Last week, for the first time all year, I noticed that the lady at the Starbucks gave me a beautiful green plug without my asking for it. She did it again today.

And in that millisecond when I realized that the lady at the Starbucks recognized my voice and gave me a plug my year was made.

There is something insanely personal about having your voice recognized.

There is something intensely joyful about being known by the sound of your voice.

You turn the radio on and immediately picture the face of the voice you are hearing.

You pick up the phone and in the minute you hear the voice, you open up a drawer of memories, a lifetime of tidbits.

From the sound of a voice you can tell if the person is happy, sad, angry, impatient, or simply there. From the sound of a voice you can tell if the person is multi tasking or worried.

The lady at the Starbucks recognized my voice and it made my day.

If the lady at the Starbucks knew what I needed from the sound of my voice don’t you think that God in all His wisdom and knowledge knows what you need simply from the sound of your voice – even when you don’t know the exact words to say?

Just think…the more you pray, the more God recognizes the sound of your voice. And the more you listen the more you’ll recognize the sound of His voice.

Suddenly, praying doesn’t seem so tedious anymore, does it?

A Starbucks, a green plug, and a voice. Who knew life could be so simple?

It is in our voice. It is the simple things that are appreciated. Here’s the thing God already hears/knows everything b4 we pray. This post word 4 word is exactly what I would have written! :) make it a great day.thanks Dr.L.

Except thar God encourages us to know Him and put in us the Holy Spirit who is Himself to connect us. He even prays for us and knows what we want without asking. The jot of asking and getting proves we are connected in His will. What a great God. Enjoy coffee without spilling.
Enjoy prayer spilling the results as you do on us. thanks

Thanks for the post. Along with that, There is also something very personal and meaningful about act of just physically coming into the presence of someone. I will always remember a girl named Dharvita. She worked at the Subway on my college campus. I went in there every day and ordered the same thing without fail for an entire semester. With her, I didn’t even have to say anything. The minute she saw me walking into the Courtyard and toward the counter, she would already start beckoning to her coworkers. “I need a foot long chicken breast on white, no cheese, no mayo, no mustard. Just honey mustard. Lettuce, tomatoes, and green peppers.” My sandwich was already half made by the time I got to the counter to order. It got to the point where we sometimes didn’t say much to each other other than hello, but both appreciating the knowledge of the other and the presence. I think God is also like this, recognizing the value and familiarity when we even just come into his presence. Often times we don’t even have to say or ask for anything, but yet he knows what we want/need and gives it to us.

Oh my goodness!! You do it every time….hit it right ON!! I love the personalness (is that even a word??) of Starbucks and the way the workers make me feel…but the analogy to our heavenly Father not only hearing my voice, but knowing how I’m doing just by the sound of my voice is phenomenal!! Quite humbling really! Dannel

I think simple is the key word here. We forget how simple it is to just pray to the Lord everyday and how amazing he is to us. Just think of all the simple things the Lord has done for you in one day. Lina got her green plugs with out asking, God showed her this simple thing just so she could write another great blog that makes you think :-)
