Amazing Love

Imagine losing everything you own. Your home. Your car. Your retirement account. Your checking account. Your wallet. You’ve got nothing left.

Then imagine losing everyone you love. Your parents, your siblings, your kids, your spouse and your friends.

And imagine losing your reputation and your pride and your position in your circle of life.

Finally, imagine losing every bit of health you may have. All you can do is lie on your back in pain.

Would you still believe in God? Would you still trust His goodness? Would you still claim to have faith?

I’ve lost many things in my life. Some were big, some were small. I’ve lost money in dumb investments. I’ve lost friends because of poor decisions. I’ve lost the love of a man because of poor timing. I’ve lost my pride because of a thorn in my flesh, and I’ve lost face over failures I’ve made.

I know loss. And I know what it is to feel as if God’s lost control, or that He doesn’t care. I’ve thought things I wish I never did, and said things that I wish I could take back. I’ve wondered how God could love me and still allow the difficulties I’ve faced. I’ve sat by myself and stared at the wall and felt as if nothing will ever change.

But it does and it did.

Job in the Old Testament lost not one thing or two. He lost everything, and lost it at once. He was a good man, a godly man. He did nothing directly to deserve it. And yet he said these magnificent words in Job 1: 21, and in Job 2:10.

“Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”

“Shall we receive good from God, and shall we not receive evil?”

Shall we receive good from God and not evil? Shall we? Testing will come if it hasn’t already. Trials will burden if you’ve not felt them yet. The temptation to curse God and die will overwhelm you at times.

But some things will never change, no matter what you feel or say. God is still God, and God is still good. He knows what you’re going through. He loves you the same. Keep waiting for Him. He knows the way. His hand is over you, under you, His presence is near. You don’t have to feel Him, just know He is here.

He loves you. He loves you. He loves you.

Can I say it again? He loves you. Despite what you’re going through. Despite what you’ve done. Despite what you will do. Despite you.

Oh how He loves you and me. Hear it. Believe it. Rest in it, my friend.

God loves you.
