If you’ve just gone through a season of growth and feel stronger than you’ve ever felt before – beware.
Here’s what I’ve learned about growth from Exodus 1: after every season of blessing and growth comes a season of oppression and attack.
The people of Israel were settled in Egypt. They had plenty of food. Joseph was Pharoah’s right hand man.
Life was good.
In Exodus 1:7 we’re told that “the people of Israel were fruitful and increased greatly; they multiplied and grew exceedingly strong, so that the land was filled with them”.
What could go wrong in the face of such blessing and growth?
It turns out, plenty could go wrong.
Joseph died. A new Pharaoh took over who didn’t know Joseph. And trouble came.
Still, the people of Israel refused to give up. In Exodus 1:12 we’re told that “the more they were oppressed the more they multiplied and the more they spread abroad”.
Point made. What else could go wrong?
A lot else could go wrong. When trouble rains, it pours.
Baby boys were killed. Oppression increased. Darkness prevailed.
And the people gave up.
Almost.
Nearly.
Just about.
Except for one thing.
God saw.
He knew.
He heard.
And then He rescued His people.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise to you and me, when blessings prevail and growth abounds, that oppression will soon follow. The enemy hates it when we flourish.
But know this – God sees, And He rescues.
We’re safe.
Remember that – if you’ve just had a growth spurt.
