Christians are all about Jesus. They talk about Him. They brag about Him. They twitter about Him. They say they want to be like Him.
But take a careful look at the life of Jesus Christ and consider if you are indeed like Him or not.
He wasn’t politically correct.
He didn’t cater to the rich and powerful.
He didn’t do things just because they’d always been done a certain way.
He spoke in code called parables.
He got up really really early to pray.
He stayed up really really late to pray.
He spent a lot of time in places of worship, usually to attack the leader!
He hung out alone (with God) a lot.
He refused to cave in to popularity.
He regularly had crowd control talks by reminding the crowds that following Him meant death.
He picked the most unknown and least flashy people to be His closest friends.
He sometimes skipped meals to hang out with the town prostitutes and drunks.
He never compromised on truth.
He warned against anything and anyone that would distract from Him.
He gave even when He didn’t seem to have Himself.
He expected His closest friends to leave everything they knew for Him.
If Jesus had a twitter account, I bet it would have peaked at first because of all the hype. I bet it would have soared when word spread that He was healing the sick and making the dead rise.
But as people got to really know Him, I have a feeling His “followers” would have slowly left Him, one by one by one until no one was left by His side.
Wait – it’s not just a feeling. It actually happened.
He died on a cross alone. For you and for me.
How like Him are we really?
