Forgive me When I Whine

I teach a Tuesday night Bible Study called the Unconventional Series. I shared a little poem with them yesterday that they loved. It turns out that I’m not the only one who catches myself whining.

I hope you will enjoy this poem as much as my class did. They asked me to share it again, so I’m doing it now. Its source is unknown.

“Today upon a bus, I saw a lovely maid with golden hair; I envied her – she seemed so gay, and how, I wished I were so fair; When suddenly she rose to leave, I saw her hobble down the aisle; she had one foot and wore a crutch, but as she passed, a smile. Oh God, forgive me when I whine, I have two feet – the world is mine.

And when I stopped to buy some sweets, the lad who served me had such charm; he seemed to radiate good cheer, his manner was so kind and warm; I said, “it’s nice to deal with you, such courtesy I seldom find”; he turned and said, “Oh thank you sir”. And then I saw that he was blind. Oh, God, forgive me when I whine, I have two eyes, the world is mine.

Then, when walking down the street, I saw a child with eyes of blue; he stood and watched the others play, it seemed he knew not what to do; I stopped a moment, then I said, “Why don’t you join the others, dear?” He looked ahead without a word, and then I knew he could not hear. Oh God, forgive me when I whine, I have two ears, the world is mine.

With feet to take me where I’d go; with eyes to see the sunsets glow, with ears to hear what I would know. I am blessed indeed. The world is mine; oh, God, forgive me when I whine.”

While going over Luke 17:15 it hit me like a ton of brick, that how often I pray for something for so long and as soon as I get my prayer answered, my human mind starts to find a logic behind the answered prayer and lose focus on God’s amazing action. Even though, I thank God for it, but still in my mind I try to find the way to explain it and reason with it. God forgive me, for my shortcoming. All I have is because of him, and I praise Him for His tenderness toward my hearts cry. I praise God, for gift of life that He has trusted me with. He has answered my prayers after a decade of prayer and pouring out my heart to Him. … He is alive and answers prayers, listen up and receive it today.

Hi! I am thankful for shelter, job, my vehicle, food, clothes, clean running hot and cold water and the list goes on… I am learning to be thankful for my trials and hardships because it helps me to grow and encourage others. It’s my testimony of God’s goodness and grace. Right this minute, I am thankful for Lina’s heart and passion for the spiritual growth & well-being of the women of God. God bless!

Lina, thanks so much for your service to the women of our church. I prayed for you this morning- for endurance in the faith. The main word that struck me last night was “cultivate”. God has been showing me how it has been so easy for my mind to cultivate whining/complaining instead of working hard to cultivate a pattern of gratitude. God forgive me for whining about His continuous provisions. I am thankful for a God who sanctifies and is merciful and gracious!
