How to Share your Faith with others

Most Christians simply don’t know how to tell others about Jesus Christ.

They may want to do it. They may try to do it. But after a few failed attempts, they resort to becoming closet Christians living out their Christian existence in utter silence until their dying days.

That’s really sad.

And it’s utterly needless.

Jesus Christ commanded us to tell others about Him and faithful is He who calls us who also will do it! Learning how to share your faith regularly with others is easier than you think.  I want to present to you 5 tips on how to share your faith with others.

1. Stop waiting for others to bring it up. Can I be the one to break it to you? You will wait a long time if you keep waiting for others to ask you about Jesus. People generally don’t wake up in the morning wondering about Jesus Christ. I mean, how many folks have you told about Jesus while waiting for them to ask you? Exactly. Hardly anyone. So stop waiting, and start talking!

2. Stop waiting for some golden opportunity. I’ve been there. I dance around conversations waiting for a segway to bring up my favorite topic. It won’t happen. Satan is trying hard to stop those kinds of conversations, and the sooner you figure that out, the faster you’ll start talking. Every opportunity to talk with someone in the course of your life is a golden opportunity. Grab it!

3. Stop waiting to live the perfect life. You just blew a fuse, and the last thing you want is for others to realize you’re a follower of Jesus Christ. Listen, there are no perfect Christians, and the best thing you can do is humbly apologize and let the truth of God stand for itself. The power is in the gospel. We all want to live lives worthy of the gospel, but the reality is that we are simply sinners saved by grace. We can all thank God that the gospel does not rest on our behavior. Christ died for our sins. He rose again defeating sin and death and has made a way for us to the Father – despite our sin! Now that’s good news, friends.

4. Stop waiting to have all the answers. You’re never gonna have all the answers. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to get more answers, but it does mean you shouldn’t depend on having all the answers. I’ve found that many unbelieving people use controversial questions to sidetrack from the main point. We are sinners in need of a savior. Make sure you stay focused on the  main thing. Here’s some good news: God has promised to give us answers the moment we need them (Luke 12:12). I’m thankful for that!

5. Start talking now. This finally brings us to the practical step of actually talking about Jesus. I mean, when we do talk about the Lord, what exactly must we say? I found a Bible tract that beautifully summarizes 4 easy steps to peace with God.

  • God loves you and has a purpose for your life. John 3:16 and John 10:10
  • Sin separates you from God. Romans 3:23. People try to bridge this gap by doing a lot of good things. No bridge reaches God…except one.
  • God’s bridge: the Cross. Jesus is the only way. John 14:6
  • Our response: Trust Jesus. Romans 10:9 and John 1:12
  • Will you receive Jesus Christ right now? Here’s how you can receive him: Admit your need (I am a sinner). Be willing to turn from your sins (repent). Believe that Jesus Christ died for you on the cross and rose from the grave.
  • Pray a prayer like this: Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe you died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite you to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow you as my Lord and Savior. In your name, Amen.

That’s not so hard, is it? My pastor likes to say it this way: “The gospel is simple but it’s not easy”.

How true that is. Learning to tell others about Jesus and repeating the words to a prayer are the simple parts. Living the Christian life and growing in obedience are the miraculous parts and can only be done through Jesus Christ our Lord.

So why don’t you start spreading the good news of Jesus today? I’m praying these 3 things for you this week: Open mouths (that’s your mouth!), open doors (that’s those golden opportunities), and open hearts (for those who hear to believe). Drop me a comment and let me know how things go for you as you seek to honor God by telling a waiting world about Him!

“Open mouths (that’s your mouth!), open doors (that’s those golden opportunities), and open hearts (for those who hear to believe).” For over 30 years I’ve knelt on my knees and poured out tears for a dad who’s neglect of Jesus Christ has paved a way for an eternity without God. He could probably lead someone to Christ from all the opportunities he’s been given. My mouth has begun to close over the last couple years, yet I hold onto the hope that God doesn’t want anyone to perish and loves my dad more that I do. Today’s post= a good reminder of the responsibility I’ve been neglecting. Thank you…
