Just out of my Reach

We all want something we just can’t seem to get.

A boyfriend. A job. A certain amount of money in the bank. A life.

Minutes turn into days turn into months with the deafening echo of one word: Why?

Why hasn’t God pulled his weight on it? Why does everyone else seem to always get the one thing I want? Why i am still waiting for it? Why? Why? Why?

While these questions may seem reasonable, they are not the correct ones to ask.

Today I’d like to give you 4 questions to ask yourself when you want something that you just can’t seem to get.

  • Is there anything I can do differently to get it? Sometimes the key to reaching the cookie jar on the shelf is to get up on a step stool. Albert Einstein rightly said: “insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”. Sometimes you’ve just got to try a new approach to an old problem. Think about it.
  • Does God want me to get it? This is a critical question to answer when you are staring at something just out of your reach. Eve learned this lesson the hard way, and we’re all still recovering from her mistake. Sometimes, God puts certain things out of our reach for a reason. Do you trust Him?
  • What is God trying to teach me by not getting it? There comes a time in your life where you’ve got to stop asking why and start asking what. What is God trying to change in you through the difficult circumstance that doesn’t seem to go away in your life? What is it about your character that needs to be broken? God is always good and He is always in control. Don’t forget that in the midst of your waiting.
  • If I do get it, would I be completely satisfied? You know how it works. You buy the perfect house only to start ogling the bigger house down the street. You find the perfect guy – until you start dating him. At the end of the day, St. Augustin said it best: “Our hearts are restless until they find their rest in God”. What will it take to satisfy you?

I know what it means to want some things in life that seem just out of my reach.

I also know that God never makes mistakes. If it’s out of my reach, He has a reason for it.

Do you believe it?

“Our hearts are restless until they find their rest in God”. What will it take to satisfy you? I truly know this very well to find rest in God means give him everything. To stop worrying about were is the money going to come from to eat or pay the bills. To just listen to the sound of are heavenly father say I love you and will take care of you. Sometime I just need to stop everything and sit and listen.
