It’s the beginning of a new year.
It’s time to become introspective and over analytical and ask yourself some important questions.
You’ve probably already made your lists of resolutions. Good for you.
I wish you great success in keeping your resolutions. I hope every one of your dreams comes true this year.
I’m not making any specific resolutions this year, but I am asking myself 3 hard questions throughout the year.
I believe these are 3 questions that are critical for every Christian to ask on a regular basis. Write them down on a card and stick them in your Bible. You will thank me in middle of March. I’ll try not to tell you “I told you so”.
1. Why am I doing this? Over the years I’ve found that it’s not so much what I do but why I do it that matters more to God. In I Corinthians 10:31 Paul says “whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” It doesn’t matter if you’re trying to lose weight or grow a blog, the key question to consider is why. Why do you want to succeed? Why do you want more money? Why do you want to get married? David said, “Search me O God and know my heart”. Will you stop long enough to ask it too?
2. What am I worried about? I spend a lot of time worrying. Ironically, all worry does is raise your blood pressure and create worry lines on your face. It doesn’t resolve one thing and most of what you worry about doesn’t happen anyway. In Philippians 4:6 God specifically commands us not to worry about anything! Worry is a sin to confess much like lust and hate are. Your worry reflects your lack of belief that God is in control. Ask the question honestly, seeking the real reason behind your worry, and remember: if God has done it, no man can touch it.
3. Where does this road lead? Life is made up of crossroads. Should I watch that TV show, read that book, take that job? Doesn’t matter what the decision point is, we often forget to consider the long term ramifications of our choices. As you face a new season in life, run each crossroad all the way down the road of your mind to see how the situation will play out with time. You will find that many of your decisions will become much clearer when you do that.
Proverbs 4:23 says “Above all else, guard your heart”. Asking yourself these 3 critical questions will help you do that.
Ask them frequently. Ask them regularly. Ask them honestly.
Then listen for the answers.
