What do you see when you look at the sky?
Some folks see the clouds, others see a plane.
While others see the angels setting up for tea.
What do you see when you look out at the ocean?
Some see a sail boat, others see a sea gull.
Yet others see the dolphins lining up for gym.
What do you see when you look outside your window?
Some see the same old tree, others see the sidewalk.
Still others see the squirrels planning their next party.
It’s easy to take things face value. A guy who’s interviewing for a job after dropping out from college may be a risky commodity. But that same guy could be the next Bill Gates.
There once was a man named Saul. He looked like a King. He was taller than anyone. He was hotter than anyone. But he turned out to be a dud.
Then there was David who was almost forgotten.
He could play the harp, and he could sing. He liked to write poetry. And he loved to talk about sheep.
Who would have thought that that same David would turn out to be the King.
In I Samuel 16:7 the Lord said to Samuel: “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
Do you know how to look past what you see? Or do you simply look at what you see?
It takes more time to look past what you see. You may have to slow down or maybe even stop. You may have to tilt your head or even stand upside down.
I’m so glad God looked past my artificial heart. I’m so glad he saw beyond my outer part.
I’m so glad He still does.
It turns out there is a whole world to be explored if you’d just look past what you see.
