Lover’s Day

Twas the night before lover’s day
and all through the house
the silence was deafening
the darkness abound

I looked through the haze
the mountain was steep
the path round the bend
seemed too far to see

The memory of ocean
sound echoed within
reminding me of days
that used to be free

There once was a boy
my heart seems to think
who loved and then gone
just out of my reach

like glass neath my feet
the shattering beat
the heart that remains
still frozen in place

then quieter still
the whisper surrounds
o’erwhelming my senses
with beckoning sounds

my love will not wander
in season of rain
it shines through the ashes
with hope that sustains

Twas the night before lover’s day
and all through the house
the smile on my face
reflected His grace
