Merry Christmas

What can one say on Christmas day that hasn’t been said before?

Merry Christmas. It’s finally here. We’ve been waiting for it. It’s everything we imagined it would be and so much more.

Even sitting here in the hospital on-call room. No, I don’t want you to feel sorry for me – although a little empathy goes a long way! But someone has to work on Christmas day.

But it’s Christmas day nonetheless, no matter what you are doing. And it’s time to rejoice!

We rejoice not just in families gathered round a tree.

We rejoice not just in presents opened after months of waiting.

We rejoice not just in great food consumed at a lavish table.

We rejoice not just in making it another year, not just in mistletoe and holiday cheer.

We rejoice not just in shopping now over and sighs of relief.

We rejoice not just in timely travel and safety on the road.

We rejoice not just in chestnuts roasting and music gently playing.

We rejoice not just in expectations now met and waiting now over.

Christmas here and we rejoice in just one thing.

We rejoice in the King!

We rejoice in His birth.

We rejoice in His love come down for mankind.

We rejoice in His presence reigning on high.

We rejoice in His nearness living in our hearts.

We rejoice in His promise so faithfully fulfilled.

We rejoice in His sacrifice, an example to follow.

We rejoice in His poverty a reminder of our riches.

We rejoice in His humility willing to bow to His father’s will.

We rejoice in the King!

We rejoice in the Lord!

We rejoice in the Savior!

We rejoice in You, King Jesus. Come reign in our hearts. Come have your own way. Come free us from sin. Come live in our midst.

Come King Jesus, Come.

We’re still waiting for you, our Lord and our King.
