A Truth you can’t Afford to Forget

I was having a bad day recently. I felt overwhelmed, unjustly attacked, disappointed.

Ever have one of those days? Days where you wonder why God isn’t going to bat for you right here right now? Days where you wonder why everyone else’s prayer lives seem to be full of blessings while yours are held up in detention somewhere?

On that day, I ran into my friend Connie. She said something that will be my motto for the next week, month, year. If I ever forget it, and I see you in the hall way somewhere, stop me and remind me of it.

Are you ready for it? It’s a simple statement, but it has been life changing for me.

It’ has given me an anchor and a hope that I desperately need.

I know you well enough by now to know that you need this truth too. So I’m sharing Connie’s secret with you. I believe you need to hear it, again and again and again.

Here it is. Here’s what she said:

There is no bad news in Jesus Christ.

Did you get it?

There is no bad news in Jesus Christ.

Your boss calls. You’re fired. Uh Oh. You feel yourself reeling, like you’re going to faint, or throw up, or both. But you stop and consider: There is no bad news in Jesus Christ. And you realize it’s going to be OK. Something good is going to come out of it.

A friend backs out of leading a Bible study. You feel betrayed, disappointed, frustrated. But you stop and consider: There is no bad news in Jesus Christ. He has a better plan for both of you. Just you wait.

You check your bank account. It’s ugly. How are you going to make it? You Stop. You consider. There is no bad news in Jesus Christ. He will provide, just in time. Somehow. Someway.

It looked grim the night of the cross. It looked hopeless, desperate, wasted. The disciples scattered. They hid. They trembled.

And they were wrong.

There is no bad news in Jesus Christ.

So today – be still. And know. He is God.

It’s going to be ok.

Lina, thank you for the reminder. I have put this into practice and know that it is true, yet sometimes I still forget. We also need to remember that just because we know this, it doesn’t mean that in that moment we will instantly feel happy and giddy. Sometimes we will still hurt. That’s when we need to remember that, while our emotions are God-given, they are as human as we are. We can’t depend on them. When we get through the trial, that’s when we see how God’s peace was really there. That’s when we see our faith. Blessings!
