A friend recently emailed me and wanted me to post a blog on the divisiveness of politics in the local church.
I thought about it for a minute then declined.
See, the thing is that I don’t do politics.
Don’t get me wrong. I have some pretty strong political opinions – many of them.
But you’ll never hear me discuss my political views on this blog. – ever.
Here’s why:
1. It doesn’t edify. You know it’s true. The surest way to start a fight is to bring up a political position. My goal in this blog is to share Biblical Principles for every day living for your growth and edification. The truth is about Jesus Christ not a political party. Period.
2. It doesn’t rectify. It doesn’t matter what my political positions are, I will never fix the issues that matter. Before you accuse me of being cynical, let me assure you that my views on the social issues are certainly not going to rectify the moral decay that is engulfing our country. Moving on.
3. It doesn’t unify. God’s call to believers is for unity. Nothing will divide a group of believers more than a political discussion. Next time you’re at a party, try it. You will see that I am 100% right – again!
4. It doesn’t glorify. My goal in life is to lift up the name of Jesus Christ and bring Him glory. Jesus instructed us to render to Caesar that which is Caesar’s and to God that which is God’s. This blog is about faith and God and all things Biblical. It will remain this way as long as I’m able to maintain it. I trust it is bringing glory to God despite my mistakes.
Listen, if you have a question about a political issue, you can ask me offline and I will determine if I can answer it without opposing these 4 principles.
And if you’re a Christian who likes politics, my advice to you is to be careful. Don’t be a stumbling block to others by imposing your political views on those around you. Try speaking as boldly about Christ’s love and His sacrifice for us on the cross.
Peace – out.
