God believes in a day of rest. He calls it the Sabbath.
We see it in Genesis 2 six days after He created the world.
We see it in the wilderness when He provided manna for the people of Israel six days a week with a double portion for the seventh.
God believes so much in the Sabbath that He included it in the 10 commandments.
We have never been busier. We have never had so much. And we have never had a greater yearning in our souls for rest.
I want to give you 3 practical ways to practice the Sabbath in your life no matter how busy you think you are.
1. Unplug yourself. I know this goes against everything in your being, but to truly gain some rest, you’ve got to turn off that computer and shut down that phone. If you can’t do it all day, try it at least for a set period of time. Your souls is parched for it.
2. Learn to say no. You have to learn to sacrifice the urgent for the important in your life. That simply means that some things have to go. Some invitations have to be declined. Some events have to be skipped. It will seem hard at first, but you will get really good at it with time, especially after you see the benefits of it.
3. Plan ahead. Be intentional in creating a Sabbath for your family. That may mean everyone pitching in to do the laundry the night before, or bowing out of that soccer league that plans every game on Sunday. You make the call, but plan it ahead of time to avoid surprises.
Good things don’t happen by accident. You’ve got to make them happen.
