South on Interstate 55

I made a huge discovery yesterday. It was earth shattering, mind boggling, wind knocking, and I’m till reeling from it.

I found out there is more to Illinois than the city of Chicago.

I’ve been in Illinois over eight years and never had an inkling that the state of Illinois is as big as the county of England. Too bad Colin Firth doesn’t come with the state registration packet. I’d even take Hugh Grant for that matter.

The morning started normally enough. I got ready, scrambled to get out the door, then started driving. And driving. And driving. Five hours later, I was still driving in the state of Illinois.

I saw corn fields, and houses, and restaurants and people. I saw train tracks, and rivers, and yards and school houses. I saw sunshine and rain drops and don’t forget a Mcdonald’s at every street corner. I saw satellite dishes and antennas, and I saw cows and I saw life and I saw hope.

All outside of the city of Chicago.

Just because I got in my car and drove south on Interstate 55.

Some people make a living of staying close to home. They are kept back by fear or ignorance or insecurity or plain old fashioned complacency.

I got news for you. There is a world out there, and it’s waiting for you to discover it and to pour yourself out for it.

Won’t you drive south on Interstate 55?
