The 10th Date

In every relationship in your life you will hit the 10th date and have to make a decision.

Do you cut your losses and bail, or are you in it to win it?

Think about your last dating relationship. The first couple of dates were great. There was great chemistry. You thought the guy was walking on water. He was smart and funny, handsome and interested in what you had to say. This led to the next few dates where you found out he was sensitive and deep and understanding and all you dreamed you ever wanted in a guy.

Then you got to date number 10. All of a sudden you smelled something, you weren’t sure what it was. And you caught him doing something, but that’s not possible. Your dream man wouldn’t have the audacity to do that? Suddenly, you thought you heard a funny sound…must be from the room next door, but No! it was coming from the man sitting right in front of you!!

You must decide….do you cut your losses and bail or do you put the sickle in the ground and stay for the long haul?

It happens in every relationship. Got a new job? Honeymoon period’s over. Your boss isn’t who you thought he would be. Time for a decision: cut and bail, or in it to win it?

You read a new blog. The write seems funny and perceptive. You keep reading. Until that 10th painful day, when you can’t believe what you’re reading. She really believes that? How could you have been so fooled by her deep and godly words? She’s just like the rest…obnoxious and self seeking. Do you cut and bail, or are you in it for the long haul?

You try out that new church around the corner. Everyone’s so nice. They want to help. They care about you. Until your 10th visit. Now they’re asking you to roll up your sleeves and work. Do you cut and bail, or stay put for the ride?

You’ve just accepted Christ as your Savior. You’re seeing the world with heaven colored glasses. Your eternity’s secure, you’ve got God on your team, nothing could go wrong. Until that 10th date, when you’re visited by trouble. And you find out the road is so narrow, the cross too heavy, the troubles too many.

But you remember the old preacher warning you – the road will be narrow he said, tribulations would come, Jesus promised, the mission impossible, for sure. And the warning clear: “no one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God” Luke 9:63.

Don’t be fooled, sooner or later, you will hit that 10th date. Be ready for it, and make up your mind.

You won’t cut and bail.

You’re in it to win it.
