It’s that time of the year when Christians celebrate Easter.
If you’re not a regular church goer, you’re probably hedging about your right to celebrate Easter. On the one hand you don’t want to be a hypocrite, but on the other hand, it seems like a pretty big deal.
I’m going to give you five reasons why you should go ahead and jump on the Easter bandwagon without any kind of hesitation.
Here we go:
1. The Egg Hunt. At the heart of every Easter Sunday is the infamous egg hunt. This is where parents hide colored eggs all over the yard for their kids to find. It’s a great tradition for many reasons. You’re probably wondering which of the Gospels is responsible for this tradition. Keep looking. But I love the Easter egg hunt because it’s about being lost and found. And that’s what the Easter story is all about. I was lost in a pit of sin when Christ found me. Ok, I’m stretching it, but I dare you to forget this next time you find yourself trudging around the yard with your 2 year old!
2. The Sunday Brunch. You can hardly sit through the church service in anticipation for that magnificent Easter Brunch. Every one loves this meal, because unlike Christmas, you don’t have to bring anything along with you for everyone else at the table. It’s a reminder of grace bestowed for free. All you’ve got to do is bring yourself to the table. That’s very Easter.
3. The Easter Bunny. Ok, I got nothing for the easter bunny. This guy is an impostor through and through. Don’t let him confuse you. He’s Santa distant relative except he can’t even give you anything you wish for. When I see the Easter bunny I just run and hide.
4. The Sunshine. I can’t remember the last easter sunday when the sun did not shine. I’m not sure how God makes this happen, but it seems to be a guarantee. And it’s a reminder of the hope that only Jesus Christ can give. So get out your pastels and your sandals and enjoy a hope filled day.
5. The Empty Tomb. At the end of the day, this is what Easter is all about. So no matter what you were intending to do this weekend, I’d skip it unless it involves jumping on the Easter Bandwagon. This is one party you won’t want to miss. Christ died and three days later He rose from the grave. The tomb is still empty today, and God is calling you to jump on this bandwagon.
All you’ve got to do is believe.
