You don’t become a Christian because somebody’s nice.
And in the same vein you don’t reject Christianity simply because somebody’s weird.
I used to work with a really odd girl and remember the exact moment I found out she was a follower of Jesus Christ.
I cringed.
Then I prayed nobody heard her admit that she was a Christian.
But they did, as they always do. And they laughed as they always will.
And I laughed along for a minute, as I tried hard to redeem all of Christianity by my very own cool factor. I joked and I justified and I explained away the intricacies of that slice of Christianity that makes up every single stereotype one can ever think up.
Until I went home and turned on Fox News and watched the self proclaimed not very likable Bill O’Reilly interview the nicest Muslim woman I’ve ever heard. She was smart, and well spoken, and likable and reasonable. Even Bill O’Reilly was dumbfounded and genuinely complimented her comments that reflected kindness and intelligence.
And I realized that you don’t become a Muslim because somebody’s nice. Just like you don’t become a Christian because somebody’s cool. And you don’t reject truth simply because of the unattractive package it comes in.
Presentation sure helps, but at the end of the day, if the meal’s bad you’ll never go back to that restaurant again.
The claims of Jesus Christ have stood the test of time and mandate your attention because they are true. He came to earth, born of a virgin, claimed to be God, lived a perfect life, died unjustly on the cross and rose again and is coming back soon to reign eternally.
I don’t care what color the bow on the package you’re looking at is, and I don’t care how nice or weird that Christian at your workplace is, the life transforming mind changing truth of Jesus Christ stands for itself.
Stop making excuses and embrace truth.
