The World as we Know it

The world as we know it is coming to an end.

I don’t mean to sound alarmist and creepy. I’m just being Biblical. Have you spent some time in I Thessalonians lately?

Here’s a thought:  What if you were to go to a brand new place where the gospel had never been. What would your message be? What kind of theology would you share?

Paul spent 3 weeks in Thesselonica and shared a book. He majored on a few critical themes.

We have a future hope.

Jesus is coming again.

Christ is establishing a future kingdom where He will be glorified and sinners will be judged.

It’s a truth that provides comfort. It’s a truth that provides stability. It’s a truth that provides a compass in this ever changing world. It’s foundational to the message of Christ.

We must live in the light of the Second Coming of Christ.

So what does it mean to the average Christian worshiping in church today? How should that truth change the way we live and breathe and plan our futures? Here are some thoughts for us to consider:

1. If Christ is coming back soon, we’ve got to find out all about it! In fact, that’s the whole point of going to church and reading our Bibles. Christ has given us everything we need to know in His word. Don’t be intimidated by it. Start by reading the gospel of John, and find a Bible believing church in your area. Go crazy and join a Bible study. There’s no time for complacency. Get with the program!

2. If Christ is coming back soon, we’ve got to start talking! Are you embarrassed to talk about Jesus? You can’t afford to be! These are days of mercy. God, who is slow to anger, patiently waits for sinners to turn to Him. We can’t sit idly by worrying about our gardens and our portfolios while people around us persist in ignorance. Speak up for Christ. If you don’t, the rocks will cry out His name!

3. If Christ is coming back soon, we’ve got to make some changes! I’m serious. Everything about the way we live, and save, and serve has to change. If you had 1 week to live, how would that impact your life? I think you’d gain some pretty quick perspective. How is your perspective on life today? Are you more worried about retirement than eternity? Do you love your present comfort more than the eternal comfort of your friends and neighbors? There’s a world out there waiting to be loved. What part are you playing in showing them the love of Christ?

The world as we know it is coming to an end.

And thank God for that.

I just saw the movie Grace Card and boy, did it hit me so hard emotionally and spiritually. I need to extend grace more readily and freely. A balance of truth and grace is so needed. Loving others as Christ loves the church. That would be the message…LOVE!
