What does God think of my Church?

Do you ever wonder what God thinks when He sees us walking into church on Sunday morning?

I find that going to church can be intimidating. It can be nerve racking. Everywhere you look people dress the part. They look the part. And you wonder how in the world you’ll ever fit the part.

But God’s perspective must be quite different. The more I think about it, the more I realize that the picture from His perspective must be quite entertaining.

So I’ve come up with a list of things God probably doesn’t think on a typical Sunday morning in church.

Here it is:

1. I’m glad the worship leader grew that soul patch. It makes all the difference.

2. Ooh. The Worship team all has plaid on again. I love plaid. It’s my love language.

3. Are those skinny jeans the bass player is wearing?

4. Oh, no! Lina’s off pitch….again.

5. I’m so proud of that usher. Those folks almost got away sitting in the wrong spot but she pushed them off just in time. She does everything with such flourish.

6. Uh oh. Lina just walked into church without her Bible. She better think twice next time.

7. Uh oh. Lina just walked into church with her “Bible”. It looks as new as it did the day she bought it – two years ago.

8. Wait…is Lina using the “I read my Bible on my iphone” trick again to check up on her twitter updates?

9. I’m so glad it’s handshaking time again. Why didn’t I think to include that in the Biblical Canon? It’s such a “nice” Sunday morning ritual.

10. Did Johnny in the sound booth screw up the timing on the overhead words to that worship song again? Somebody better fire his butt as soon as the service is over.

11. Lina’s daydreaming again. But at least she’s here. Who cares where her mind is as long as my numbers are up.

12. If those three little kids keep running around my lobby…I can’t believe their parents are letting them get away with this!

13. Are Jack and Jill holding hands in front of Dick and Jane? I could have sworn they were just shooting missiles at each other 30 minutes ago. Must be my presence. Or Dick and Jane’s.

14. That is the 5th time Joe looks at his watch in the last 5 minutes. Am I boring Him?

15. It’s incredible how talented this pastor is. Every week, he manages to finish his message at exactly the same time. Good thing I was already done speaking.

Maybe you’re worried about how you’ll fit into church or whether you should go at all.

Remember that God doesn’t look at the outside. He sees your heart. So make sure you bring it with you, no matter what time you get there!

And while you’re at it, lighten up. God loves us despite us!
