I’ve read about it in the pages of the Bible.
I’ve heard stories of it.
But I want to experience it right now.
I’m talking about a breakthrough.
Are you in need of a breakthrough? Are you facing a situation that seems impossible to resolve? Have you been waiting it feels like forever for an answer?
Are you desperate enough for a breakthrough?
One of my favorite passages in the Bible is Lamentations 3:17-33. You may want to look it up and read it. I’ll summarize by giving you 4 steps to take when you’re desperate for a breakthrough:
1. Remember. God’s mercies are new every morning. His love never fails. He is good. It’s so easy to focus on the problem and forget that God is in it. He has allowed the crisis in your life for a reason. When you’re desperate enough to look up, remember He is God. He is near.
2. Wait. God is good to those who wait for him. It is in the waiting that your faith grows. We are living in a fast paced immediate gratification get it for me now culture. We have forgotten how to wait yet waiting is intricately linked to God and His ways. Wait patiently. Wait persistently. Wait joyfully. Wait trustingly. Wait without worry. Wait without fretting. Wait without complaining. Just simply wait. He is closer than you think.
3. Be quiet. I love the emphasis in Lamentations 3 on stillness and quiet. In verse 28 it says: “Let him sit alone and keep silent, because God has laid it on him; Let him put his mouth in the dust – there may yet be hope”. I know when I’m desperate my first reaction is to pick up the phone or get on my twitter and tell the whole world how bad things are. I’m learning that it is in the quiet of my heart that God meets me and whispers that He knows. He sees. The answer is on the way.
4. Hope. Hope seems elusive to the one who is desperate. Yet in this short passage the word Hope is used four times. Hope is intrinsic to the Christian faith. We hope because we know who God is and what He has done. We hope because He has said that He does not cast off forever, but will yet show compassion on us. We hope because He is risen from the dead. We hope because He is a promise keeper.
Great crisis leads to great breakthrough.
If your back is against the wall or you’re hanging on for dear life, rest in knowing that God has you exactly where He wants you to be. Hope is on the way.
