I’ve always liked lists.
When other people bought e-tablets for their to do lists, I bought more 3×5 index cards.
It doesn’t matter how sophisticated my apple products get, I will always carry a small piece of paper with a list of things to do on it.
It’s not surprising then that I like to think about life in organized lists. Recently I sat down for a few minutes to process my life in the ER. I’ve always felt that life in the ER is a microcosm for life in the real world. I believe the list I made up of lessons from the ER can apply to any area of your life. I hope this list will be helpful to you too.
1. When the solution isn’t obvious – wait for it.
2. When the mountain is steep – start climbing one step at a time.
3. When you need to lessen the confusion – speak up.
4. When there’s an elephant in the room – deal with it.
5. When you don’t know – admit it.
6. When you’re not sure – ask.
7. When you can’t remember it – look it up.
8. When you’re burnt out – take a day off.
9. When you’re broke – work harder.
10. When you’re afraid – pray.
Just think. I just saved you 10 years of school and about $100,000 in school debt.
