I recently asked the question: “What would you do if you only had 1 more year to live”.
Without a doubt the greatest number of responders said the same thing: I’d quit everything I was doing and tell the world about Jesus.
Which begs the obvious question: Why aren’t you telling everyone about Jesus already?
I suggest these 4 reasons why most Christians don’t tell the world about Jesus:
1. I don’t know how to. Not knowing how to share your faith is a really valid reason why many Christians don’t do it. They know that they believe it, but they have a hard time clearly presenting the gospel to someone else. I’ve been a Christian a long time, and believe me, I’ve learned that the more I share my faith the easier it is for me to express it. I also believe that sharing your faith effectively is a skill that can be learned and practiced. Tomorrow, I’ll be blogging on how to share your faith effectively. Be sure to tune in.
2. I’m afraid they’ll laugh at me. Of course they’ll laugh at you. They laughed at Jesus. But a few believed. And the ones who did believe ended up changing the world for Christ. Jesus didn’t shy away from the persecution that his followers would face. He warned us but He also promised to be with us. Don’t let fear of people paralyze you from giving away the truth.
3. I believe it’s God’s job to save people. You are 100% correct, it IS God’s job to save people. But in His amazing grace, God chooses us to be the instruments to tell others about Him. In fact, it’s His very last command to his followers. In Mark 16:15 He tells us to go into all the world and proclaim the gospel. Proclaiming involves speaking out loud. True, we cannot save others. But we can tell them the truth and leave the saving to God. Stop convincing yourself that faith is a private matter. People need the Lord. It’s a life and death matter.
4. I’m distracted with lesser things. By far and above I’d venture to guess that this is the greatest reason most believers don’t share their faith with others. They are simply busy with “their own” life. They are running around with little margin for divine interruptions and life changing conversations. They are so focused on their own needs it would take God smacking them in the head to open their eyes and see clearly. It’s been said that good is the enemy of best, and I guarantee you that one of Satan’s greatest tools in preventing the spread of the gospel is to busy Christians with a bunch of things that are simply “good”.
So – what’s your reason for not telling your world about Jesus Christ?
Tune in tomorrow for practical tips on how to share your faith with others.

4 we all have our distractions it’s called life.but as Christians its our duty to bring others to him.nothing warms my heart more then waking up on a cold winter morning & reading valuable positive messages. Thank-you Lina
Much needed for our day. Yes, our job is to tell, and God does the saving. We are not to be ashamed of Jesus otherwise, He will be ashamed of us, so speak up without fear and it gets easier with time.
I think the number one reason people don’t share Jesus is due to fear. Fear of not knowing what to say, and fear of rejection. My husband is in seminary right now and is reading a book called Share Jesus Without Fear. He has been reading some of the stuff to me and its a fantastic resource on witnessing. I believe that every Christian is supposed to witness. We would be wrong to keep this gift we have received a secret. If you have wanted to tell others about Jesus but don’t know how, I highly suggest this book. It has already made an impact into my husbands life, as he has now led 2 people to Christ in the past week. Really excited to hear what your tips are tomorrow! =0)
God has given me a wonderful opportunity to share Jesus with everyone I come into contact with! I am honored, privledged, and humbuled by this opportunity. Now I need to learn to share Him in the best possible way to glorify Him and all His wonderous deeds, love, and power. I would love to read that book….who is the author? Thank you Lina for this most timely post and challenging message!
If you were talking about the book I referenced its Bill Fay. I know you will love it!
Im getting That book
Thanjs Hollie that’s the book.
Lina, thanks for bringing this up! I was just thinking the other day about this and came to the conclusion that I am lacking skills to know how to share my faith effectively, so I am really looking forward to your blog tomorrow! And thanks for helping me to keep my focus on the things that matter eternally. You are such a blessing!
I think number four hits the nail on the head. I think if we were focused on Christ the way we should be, speaking about Him would be so natural and we wouldn’t have to “work up the nerve”.
This is a great question, cause I just had it with someone and they said: I’m not sure what to say. Pray about it God will give you the right words to say to that person. I know because I have been their and God has done it for me.
Nite time prayer.beyond words 4everthing that transpired 2day.good.questionable. Found my answer of which direction God has said. Health Care field. Blessed in ways I cannot put words 2 other then look up and smile and say I understand & I will Lord. Lina,thank-you! Thank-you. I have never been more focused&driven. Night …
