Xray Vision

My nephew fell off his bike last night.

He called me this morning to see if I could check whether his arm is broken or not.

I hate to disappoint my nephew, and I know I am an amazing creature in many ways, but to date I do not have Xray vision.

Now don’t get me wrong, I am a pretty good doctor. For instance if the arm is crooked, I usually have a pretty good hunch it’s broken. But it’s the ones that look straight that trick you.

Sin is the same way. Every one can tell you have an anger problem when you beat your wife. Every one can tell you have a lust problem when you’re hitting the adult video stores. Even a kid can tell you have an envy problem when you’re throwing darts at your nemesis’ picture on the wall.

It’s the subtle sin that’s harder to detect.

David said this in Psalms 139: 23-24

“Search me, O God, and know my heart!

try me and know my thoughts!

and see if there be any grievous way in me,

and lead me in the way everlasting!”

The Holy Spirit is your Xray vision today. He can see subtle fractures that aren’t easy to detect to the naked eye.

You may ask your friend if your arm looks broken and get a pleasant response. But you may also miss something as subtle as a hairline fracture. The problem with a hairline fracture is that if you aren’t careful, it can turn into a much bigger sin problem given enough time.

Need an Xray today? Ask God to show you the hidden things of your heart.
